Fucking bedbugs.

They crawl all over you and bite and drink your blood, but only when you're sleeping, so there's no way to catch them in the act. They get into every tiny little nook and cranny, and they love paper and cloth, so writers often end up having to throw out all their notes and manuscripts. Just spraying the room with poison DOES NOT WORK, so bug bombs are out. You can try heat treatments, cold treatments, diatomacious earth (basically pulverized seashells which gets caught in the chinks of their armor and...somehow...makes them sterile), but they all have to be done for really LONG periods, and repeatedly, and even doing all these things never gets rid of all of them, so you're fighting the infestation for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

I had them a month or so ago, and the apartment owners sprayed the apartment three times, and I had to go through a whole ordeal of moving over to my folks' place, laundromat-heating every piece of cloth I owned, inspecting every piece of paper I owned, and just generally waiting for and dreading their reappearance. So the last treatment was Wednesday of last week, I move back this Tuesday, and this Wednesday night...

There's a bedbug.

Crawling.

On the floor.

Of my FUCKING apartment.

So now I have to go through all that ALL OVER AGAIN.

It's extremely stressful, having to uproot yourself, having these THINGS CRAWLING on you when you're TRYING TO SLEEP. They're not just invading your home, either; oh, no...they're CRAWLING ON YOU and EATING A PART OF YOUR BODY. And since they're practically impossible to get rid of, you feel like they'll be doing this to you FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.






And that's why there's no comic this weekend.
